It’s been 40 years now that I saw this movie! I was with my friend Pat, and we were double dating with some young men that we had recently met from the then tiny town of Owasso, OK. We were at the Bowman Twin Theater in Tulsa, which back in the day was a “to go” to place for a movie. I remember standing in line not having a clue what this movie was about. I turned and asked my date “Now what is this movie about?”. He told me about a guy who becomes a boxer. I was thinking…”Uuuugh…it’s a guy movie” and then basically dreaded going in and watching this movie.
By the time the movie was over, I was in love with Sylvester Stallone, felt like I could conquer the world, wanted a turtle, and sooo envied that meek, mild little Adrian I considered becoming her. However that was taking it a bit far…she was a bit to meek and mild, I couldn’t go there. I did however buy a skin tight maroon tee with “ROCKY” on it in complete bling! Ok, so it wasn’t bling, it was iridescent lettering. That was considered bling back in the day. It really was not all that popular back then, so I am pretty sure I started that trend as all the girls in school asked me “WHERE did you get that shirt?!!”
So tonight I share with you the #1 song, on this day back in 1977. I have since seen every single “ROCKY” movie, and will always envy Adrian, just a little bit. 😉
